City of Saint Charles Finds Success, Efficiency with MaintenanceEdge

The City of Saint Charles, Missouri is home to over 60,000 people and the Facilities Division is responsible for the Convention & Visitors Bureau, City Hall, Historical Society, Justice Center, Art Centre, Senior Center and several fire stations,  parking garages and public restrooms.  Recently, Saint Charles’ Facility Director, Doug Wood discussed the challenges he was facing with work order management and the success he’s found with MaintenanceEdge.

What phrase would you use to describe FacilityDude?

Very Good!

What business challenges were you trying to solve when you purchased FacilityDude?

We were using a paper work order system which caused us to have a large amount of paper storage and wasn’t very green. The two biggest things were:

  1. Efficiency
  2. Getting out of the paper game

How did FacilityDude help you solve these business challenges?

  1. Well, everything is done on-line, and I encourage my technicians to not print work orders unless they feel it’s absolutely necessary.
  2. I also like that it makes our guys accountable. They have assigned PM and Non-PM work orders, and they know if they push complete on that work order and it’s not completed it’s going to come back to haunt them.

How easy was it to implement FacilityDude?

Very Easy! Very easy from the administrative stand point and the requesters stand point. I’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback.

How has FacilityDude helped you save time and resources?

Well, the paper thing was a big resource, and the time thing is huge, because once the requester is done on-line the system is very efficient and emails the requester that we received the work order. The requester knows the technician who will be working on their request, and the date that we received the work order. It keeps everyone in the loop the requester, the technician, and the adminis­trator who’s assigning the work orders. That has helped a lot.

What are the three most important reasons you continue to use FacilityDude?

  1. Ease of use
  2. The server and equipment are off site. That means I don’t have to worry about upgrades and software and a lot that stuff. It is all taken care of at a different location so it’s very easy for me to use.
  3. Customer support. I really like the chat feature for help.

What things would you tell someone who asked you about FacilityDude?

  1. The easy implementation was great!
  2. The help and support is great!

What would your work life be like if you didn’t have FacilityDude?

Cumbersome, and inefficient; I definitely would not be able to keep track like I do. I looked at other on-line work order systems, and it was just a nightmare to implement and get set up. The difference with FacilityDude was that it was easy all the way around.
