Each April, we celebrate National County Government Month to raise public awareness about the roles and responsibilities of county government. This year’s theme is “Healthy Counties, Healthy Families,” to increase the understanding of the county’s health services, wellness programs, recreational programs, and other services which counties provide to promote healthy living and lifestyle choices in local communities.
County governments provide services to protect our homes, schools and neighborhoods. They make sure we have clean water and functioning wastewater systems; maintains safe roads, bridges, airports and transit systems; provide access to health care, and operate our courts and jails. The county maintains our parks and recreation programs, our libraries, waste and recycling facilities, and serves as the safety net for our children, the elderly, the disabled, the mentally ill and anyone in need.
This month is the perfect opportunity for the public to take a closer look at their local county government and recognize just how many vital programs and services are provided by these governments to keep our communities running smoothly. From all of us at FacilityDude, we’d like to thank county governments for everything they do for our communities.
